Sessions & Pricing

Finding the right therapist is not a 'one size fits all' approach. Counsellors vary from person-to person and it is really important for you to feel comfortable with your therapist, to feel unjudged and to feel like you are truly listened to. Take a look at the FAQ below to see what to look for in a counsellor.

If you'd like to explore whether I would be a good fit for your particular situation, please complete the enquiry form and I will be in touch to discuss your situation in more detail and for both of us to explore whether we'd be a good fit working together. There is no obligation to commit to sessions at this point and if we decide it's not the right fit, I can support you to find someone that might be a better suited to your needs.

Face-to-face Sessions

If we decide to work together face-to face, I will send you some paperwork and we will organise a 50-min face-to-face initial consultation session where I will ask further questions about your life and any goals you may have. From this session we will agree a plan going forward and organise future sessions.

Sessions take place in light, spacious and professional clinic rooms provided by Bedford Consulting Rooms at                 Bedford Consulting Rooms, 4 Goldington Rd, Bedford MK40 3NF. There is some on-site parking available on an first-come-first-serve basis and also a large council run car park just a few metres away.

Online Sessions.

If we decide to work together online, I will send you some paperwork and we will organise a 50-min initial consultation video session via the Doxy.me platform, where I will ask further questions about your life and any goals you may have. From this session we will agree a plan going forward and organise future sessions.

Should you choose online counselling, you will be sent a Doxy.me meeting room link via email, text or calendar invite and we will meet at a pre-agreed time. Sessions are 50 minutes in length.  Being able to see each other online gives you the benefits you get from face-to-face counselling but with the convenience of online therapy.

FAQ's

How many sessions will I need?

I don't have a limit on the amount of sessions I offer a client. I tend to work open-endedly as the number of sessions each person needs can vary enormously depending on the issues they bring and on their individual circumstances. Some people will need longer term support whilst others might just need a few sessions. This will be discussed at your first session.

Will counselling fix my problem?

Counselling isn’t about someone else giving you the solutions to what you are finding difficult in your life.  If you feel ready to deepen your self-awareness, to look at what holds you back and drives you forward, counselling can be very helpful. It is a way to feel truly heard, build resilience and coping strategies and work together to make positive changes in your life if that's what's needed.

Is it confidential?

Your confidentiality is a key component of counselling and is taken very seriously. We will discuss this at our first meeting.

What type of therapist are you?

An integrative therapist which means I use various approaches to provide a personalised course of therapy. I mainly draw from: the person-centred approach which considers the client an expert in their own lives and highly values the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and client. I also utilise solution-focused therapy which focuses on the solutions rather than focusing on the problems. CBT which focuses on managing your problems by changing the way you think and behave. And psychodynamic techniques to support clients to find patterns in their emotions, thoughts and beliefs in order to gain greater insight into their current self. I also utilise creative techniques such as sand trays, games and craft activities to facilitate therapy.

What should I look for in a counsellor?

The National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society provides a great guide on what to consider when finding a counsellor.

As someone who has experienced a range of counsellors myself, I personally think that it is important to consider what you want from a therapist. Do you want someone who is more directive or gentler in nature? Is there a particular personality type you are more comfortable with or less so?

Follow your instincts on who you feel comfortable with, as the quality of the relationship with your therapist can have a huge impact on how successful therapy can be.

What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a type of talking therapy with a trained professional who will help you to explore your thoughts, feelings and concerns. Psychotherapy can be a powerful experience which can help you to improve your mental health, overcome social or emotional challenges, and fulfil your potential

Psychotherapy tends to be used interchangeably with counselling. Both use counselling techniques but can vary slightly in the focus, length and techniques used with clients. Counselling tends to focus on the here and now wheras psychotherapy focuses on the here, THEN and now.

I base each clients therapy on their individual needs and therefore may refer to myself as a psychotherapist, a counsellor or a psychotherapeutic counsellor.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes, I hold a Certificate in Online and Telephone Counselling mapped to the BACP competencies.

  • Are you comfortable using internet technology?

  • Would you prefer to see your counsellor face to face?

  • Do you feel you can express your feelings well using words?

  • Do you feel your situation is too complex to discuss via the internet?

  • Is there a computer terminal that you can use privately without interruption?
